Abstract

Rice is the most important foods in Asian countries including Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, India and Indonesia. Hence, the agriculture sector in these development country mainly contributed by the paddy cultivation. As the result, there are many wastes produced instead of provided food for peoples. These wastes are basically generates from rice milling activity and it is type of byproduct which known as paddy husk or rice husk. During the process, about 78 % of weight is received as rice, broken rice and bran while another 22 % of the weight is received as husk.
These husks have many potential to increase the profit instead of being dumped into river or being burnt. Nowadays, in some places, the rice husk is used as fuel in the rice mills to generate steam for the parboiling process.
Besides, current researched shows that the combustion of husks has potential to mix with the concrete to give strengthened and improving the durability to the concrete. Furthermore, the bio-oil that been produced by fast pyrolysis also has several potential in order to substitute the current source of fuel.
As for my Final Year Project, I will be study and research about the ‘Microwave Decomposition of Paddy Husk’. Essentially, the intention of this topic is to investigate the products that obtained from microwave pyrolyzer.
