Abstract

The current surveys of major seismic activity showed that major earthquakes occur at developing and under-developed nations with higher frequency. The residences and buildings in these regions are comprised of structures with weak resistance to ground movements and earthquake aftermaths. In the event of an earthquake, a high percentage of these buildings are not capable of providing a safe haven for its survivors. A temporary shelter with the ability to endure the aftershocks that follow is essential during the reconstruction of permanent homes and basic facilities. While the latest technology is in place to deliver such capacity, it may seem costly for the affected governments to dispense. With inspirations from nature, an affordable shelter with simple but effective technologies is devised to provide economical and effectual solutions to the earthquake survivors.
