Abstract

The objectives of the Dissertation of the Final Year Project report is to record all relevant findings from literature reviews regarding the project of Preparation and Characterization of Co-Ni/Al2O3 catalyst for steam reforming of Acetic Acid. The main objectives of this project is to study the methods of preparing the catalysts for steam reforming of acetic acid, to prepare theCo-Ni/Al2O3 catalysts for steam reforming of acetic acid using impregnation method and to study the characteristics of Co-Ni/Al2O3 catalysts. The background of the project is described in Chapter 1. Some literature researches were done in order to study the available methods for preparing catalyst supported on metal. There are three methods of introducing metal precursor, which is either by impregnation/ion exchange, co-precipitation and deposition precipitation. For this project, the catalysts were prepared by impregnation method and undergone several characterization measurements such as X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method (BET). Further explanation for the methodology is discussed in Chapter 3. The results obtained from the characterization measurements were analyzed and discussed in Chapter 4. At the end of this project, it is found that the catalysts were successfully prepared by impregnation method and characterized for XRD, SEM and BET. However, catalyst testing was not done due to some technical problem. In Chapter 5, the conclusion and recommendations for this project is discussed.
