Reducing anthropogenic carbon dioxide emission and decreasing the concentration of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere has become one the most vital environmental issue at current age. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), a new class of crystalline porous materials constructed by metal-containing nodes bonded to organic bridging ligands holds great potential as adsorbents or membrane materials in gas separation. This studies highlights on magnesium- based MOF, also known as Mg-MOF-74 successfully synthesized, characterized and evaluated for adsorption of CO2 an also recent advancement in the development of carbon supported material which is graphene oxide (GO) on Mg-MOF-74. The CO2 adsorption on Mg-MOF-74 and Mg-MOF-74/GO were investigated and compared. Mg-MOF-74 was synthesis by using magnesium nitrate Mg (NO3)2.6H2O and a linker, 2,5-dihydroxyterephthalte acid in the presence of dimethylformamide(DMF), ethanol and deionized water under conventional hydrothermal method. Characterization techniques was done to study the behavior of this MOF It was found that graphene oxide MOF-74(Mg-MOF-74/GO) has higher CO2 adsorption capacity with a reported value of 0.0031mol/g as compared to Mg-MOF-74 which was 0.0028mol/g. This work may be helpful in the integration of graphene oxide Mg-MOF-74 in CO2 application.
