Abstract

This project entitled “ Edge Detection Algorithm for Image Processing of Search and Rescue Robot ” has its primary purpose to identify an optimum edge detection algorithm for image processing of search and rescue robot. Edge detection is an image processing method for locating and identifying the boundaries of objects within images by eliminating the information considered less important. This paper highlights the various edge detection algorithms working method and comparison is made based on the advantages and disadvantages of the algorithms for the identification of an optimum edge detection algorithm. Subsequently, Canny edge detection algorithm is selected as an efficient algorithm based on the comparison made and it is further used in this project. Hence, a detailed flowchart of the working procedures of the project based on Canny edge detection algorithm is designed. This paper demonstrates the experimental results of Canny edge detection algorithm performance through MATLAB software by using two different input images which are an ideal image and a real image.
