Abstract

This project work describes on study and analysis of materials characteristics for the capacitive coupling wireless power transfer system. There were two types Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) that widely been used and studied by the researcher which are Inductive Power Transfer (IPT) and Capacitive Power Transfer (CPT). Electric fields transmit by the electrostatic induction phenomena happened between transmitter and receiver. A capacitor is formed at the transmitter and receiver with the intervening space as the dielectric. Transmitter generated an alternating voltage and been applied on transmitter plate from primary circuit.
The alternating potential is induced by the oscillating electric field on the receiver plate by electrostatic inductions which cause the alternating current to flow in the secondary circuit. The simulation work and experimental work is conducted in this project to analyze the materials characteristics for capacitive power transfer. The method of CPT is selected because it has the potential to reduce the electromagnetic interference (EMI) and the capability to transfer the power through the metal barrier compared to IPT.
