Abstract

Steel catenary risers (SCRs) represent one of the main solution alternatives for
production and export in deepwater developments. However, riser design is a complex
and challenging because it is critically depends on the floater attached.
Thirteen SCRs are connected to a semi-submersible floaters which located in Central
of GOM with water depth of 2000m will be numerically tested. Sixteen moorings are
installed to control platform motion and 12 production SCRs with 8 in or 10 in outer
diameter (OD) and 1 export SCR of 20 in OD are considered in this study. SCRs are
grouped as four based on the location, e.g. EAST, WEST, SOUTH and NORTH fields.
Deterministic time domain dynamic analysis was carried out for operating, extreme and
survival cases to evaluate the riser strength.
