Abstract

This work focused on studying the feasibility of using ionic liquids as inhibitor for corrosion of carbon steel in acidic medium. Two ionic liquids namely 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tosylate, [EMIM][TOS] and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tosylate,[BMIM][TOS] were studied. Comparison between two types of ionic liquids will be carried out and the efficiency of each solution tabulated and analysed. The corrosion performance of the studied ionic liquids involves experimental analysis and testing to provide information about the corrosion rates of carbon steel in the absence and presence of ionic liquids through gravimetric and electrochemical methods.
