Abstract

Nowadays, the increment of population in this world has led to the increment of solid waste generated. This issue drives to the deterioration of quality of water in the river. In this study, the existence of Papan Landfill has been a worrying issue to the residents nearby especially in terms of the environment as well as their health. Endocrine Disrupting Compound (EDC) is a carcinogenic compound that is commonly found in leachate and can give adverse impacts to humans and wildlife. In this study, the leachate produced from Papan Landfill is found to be discharged into Johan River. Therefore, this research is to investigate on the water quality as well as detecting the presence of EDC along the Johan River. Leachate sample and as well as few river samples will be taken every two weeks to compare and contrast the water quality and detecting the presence of EDC along the Johan River. Some water quality parameters like Total Suspended Solid (TSS), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Ammonia Nitrogen (AN), pH value, temperature as well as Dissolved Oxygen (DO) of each sample will be measured to obtain the Water Quality Index (WQI). On the other hand, in order to identify the presence of EDC, a Liquid-Liquid Extraction Method will be used with the aid of Dichloromethane (DCM) as a solvent.
