Abstract

A sustainable construction project involves multi-disciplinary entities. Collaborative
approach is essential for delivering sustainable construction. Previous researchers
have suggested multiple collaboration supporting factors. The research on critical
success factor of collaborative approach in delivering sustainable construction is
insufficient. This research identifies the collaboration support factors from literature
review, then identifies critical collaboration factors in achieving sustainable
construction using survey method. Mean and standard deviation analysis is done to
the data collected from survey to rank the criticality of each collaboration factors in
delivering sustainable construction. Eventually, factor analysis is done to identify the
similarities between all the factors.
There are twelve (12) factors identified from previous studies. Among all the
collaboration factors, coordination among project stakeholders is identified as the
most critical in delivering sustainable construction. All the collaboration success
factors are decomposed into five groups based on the similarities of function in
delivering sustainable construction function. The five groups are information,
information flow, common goal, operational engagement as well as financial
engagement. This research enriches the existing literature in the field especially in
Malaysia and contributes to devise a comprehensive and rigorous collaboration
factors in delivering sustainable construction.
