Abstract

Design and construction of cast in-situ concrete piles (also known as bored piles) are often accompanied with the need to perform instrumented pile load test to validate the load bearing capacity and allowable deformation against structural loadings. Typically, various sensors and Non-Destructive Test (NDT) methods are used to investigate the pile integrity against structural defect, non-conformance, and anomalies of stresses and strains in the pile. Recently, the Distributed Optical Fibre Strain Sensing (DOFSS) through Brillouin Optical Time-Domain Analysis (BOTDA) has been introduced in Malaysian construction industry, particularly as part of advancement in pile load test.
