Abstract

The introduction of 5G pioneers a new level of mobile performance with ultra-high
speeds and low latencies. However, most of the research only focus on enhancing
existing sub-6 GHz multi-band filters for 5G IoT applications. Therefore, it is a need to
design multi-band filters supporting 28 GHz (mmWave) band with high adjacent bands’
rejections to enable mmWave spectrums for 5G IoT applications. Besides that, narrowband
high-order conventional Chebyshev filters have a concern which is unable to deliver
the actual filter design parameters due to the fabrication technology limitation. Thus, a
novel method of mathematical synthesis involving chaining of uncommon Chebyshev
polynomials of the second kind for the application of a dual-band waveguide filter has
been presented in this thesis. It is applicable to high filter orders greater than five, and
will always possess symmetrical dual-band filter properties.
