Abstract
Epilepsy is a chronic condition of the central nervous system that is defined by
recurrent and unprovoked seizures. A seizure can be defined clinically as an
"intermittent paroxysmal, stereotyped disturbance of consciousness, behaviour,
emotion, motor function, perception or sensation, which may occur singly or in
combination and is thought to be the result of abnormal cortical neuronal discharges."
This research is focused on the development of a seizure event detection system using
EEG signals which can be used by general physicians to detect seizures from a
patient's recorded EEG and have an insight into the number and time of individual
seizures to better titrate therapy.
