Abstract
In this study, a new Acid-Alkali-Surfactant-Polymer (AASP) flooding formulation
was designed by incorporating acrylic acid with conventional Alkali-Surfactant-
Polymer (ASP) system to prevent precipitation problems. The AAPS formula was
aimed to overcome the precipitation caused by the reaction of injected chemicals such
as alkali and surfactant with divalent ions which exist both in the carbonate minerals
and formation brine. The ASP formula was also developed to simulate the
conventional ASP flooding and to compare the performance of AASP and ASP^Ehestudy
was commenced with fluid-fluid compatibility tests to find an optimum acidalkali
ratio for keeping chemical solutions without any precipitations. The impact of
precipitation inhibitoron interfacial tension and viscosity was investigated using hard
brine of 59,940 ppm TDS. Finally, natural imbibition tests and core flooding
experiments were performed to examine oil displacement by the optimum chemical
combinations. The optimum acid-alkali ratio was found to be 0.6:1.0.
