Abstract

Fossil fuel, a non-renewable energy source accounts 88% of the primary energy
consumption in the world and creates a negative impact to the environment.
Alternatively, biodiesel from microalgae is one of the reliable energy sources for the
current situation. At the moment, batch cultivation is widely used for microalgae
cultivation as it is the easiest. However, the quality of batch cultivation may be
inconsistent and less efficient as it takes longer cultivation time. In order to
overcome the constraint of sluggish growth rate of microalgae in batch cultivation, a
semi-continuous cultivation was carried in the present project.
