Abstract

With regard to coastal protection and beach nourishment, breakwaters have been used increasingly by coastal engineers as an optional structure for coastal planning and management. Therefore, the urge of enhancing the existing breakwaters models have been continuously leading coastal engineers to develop new designs and assess their performance when exposed to ocean waves. Moreover, the abundance of unused and aged marine pipelines in Malaysia leads to the proposal of a sustainable breakwater that implements their use so as to provide porosity to the structure and reduce the use of natural resources. The focal target of this thesis was to assess through experimental studies, the design and performance of a Porous Breakwater subjected to regular waves based on the design proposed by Pereira (2017) with respect to the relative breakwater width (B/L) and relative wave steepness (Hi/L).
