Abstract

The purpose of this project is to model methyl methacrylate polymerization process by reviewing the mechanism of polymerization reaction, develop mathematical models for initiator, monomer, radicals and polymers after exploring literature data, and studying the operation parameters and kinetics from earlier reports. By identifying background and problem statement of the project, a research of the technical and pattern literature is conducted for the information on the project. The information obtained from the literature is gathered, analyze and applied. After identifying mathematical models for MMA polymerization process, model parameters need to be identified to run the simulation. The simulation results are to be given based on CSTR model using a MATLAB Simulink. Mole balance and energy balance which produce the ordinary differential equations is used to solve the concentration and temperature profile respectively. In this report, the model is validated by comparing the final value of MMA molecular weight with the desired value from literature review.
