Abstract

Removal of CO2 from natural gas is currently a global issue, apart from meeting the contractual specifications it is also a measure for reducing the global CO2 emission.
The aims of this project is to present a comprehensive review of different processes available and suitable for removal of CO2 from natural gas and explore the capability of HYSYS process simulator to predict the CO2 removal process operating conditions range at which hydrocarbon and chemical loss (amine solvent) can be minimized.
In the literature review the descriptions of the processes are discussed in details based on the process selection factors. The processes are divided in two types which are physical absorption and chemical absorption where each of the process got their own type of solvent. The suitable process for removal of carbon dioxide from natural gas is choose based on the comparison between all the technology that has been used in industries. The chosen process then simulated using HYSYS simulation based on basic case data.
In conclusion on this report, the simulation methodology prior to achieve the objective of this project is provided with the results from the simulation and the optimization of the process parameters.
