Abstract
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a new emerging approach to design,
construction, and facility management in which a digital representation of the
building process is being created to facilitate the exchange and interoperabilit;v of
information in digital format. Despite the advantages derived from this paradigm,
local construction industry is reluctant to deploy the technology in its service,
delivery. The objectives of the study were to investigate the level of awareness and
perception of BIM among Engineers and Architects in Malaysia. To realize the
objectives, structured questionnaires were administered to 30 key players in the field
of Architecture and Engineering randomly seiected from PAM and ACEM database.
In addition to that, interviews were also conducted to some key players in design and
construction industry to elicit BIM awareness among them. Qualitative analysis was
used to analyze the result from interview while quantitative analysis was used to
analyze the result of the questionnaires. From the research, it was found out that
Architects and Engineers in Malaysia are aware of BIM but not many of them are
implementing this technology due to some barriers.
