Abstract

One of the most important part in a vehicle; cars, trucks, motorcycle, buses,
airplanes and etc, is the tire. We can conclude that the tires play an important role
for these vehicles to travel from one place to another place. However, tires also must
be maintained and monitored its air pressure in order to avoid critical under-inllation
that could lead to catastrophic tire failure. This project requires students to study on
the existing system of Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and if possible to
come up with depth research on how to design the overall system. The main purpose
of the TPMS is to warn and alert the driver if the tires are running out air pressure,
leaving the tires under-inllated and dangerous. This project also will be focusing
more on the transmission of the data (the tire air pressure) to the receiver
components which will be located inside the car. Both the transmitter and receiver
shall be designed using the available standalone Transmitter and Receiver module
and needs improvement improvisation to produce a Transmitter and Receiver Kit. In
addition, this project is a 2-person work where the author focuses on the RF
Transmission which include the Transmitter and Receiver while the other student;
Farah focuses on the PIC Microcontroller and the Display. The final objective of this
continuous project is that the students shall come up with the workirtg prototype
together with the wireless transmission of the imitation signals (mechanical pressure
sensor) of pressure level to the receiver and display the data using the LCD display.
The methodology of this project is to design the transmitter and receiver whereby
the input of the transmitter is the air pressure of the tire. The transmitter will collect
the data from the pressure sensor and then transmit the signal to the receiver and
displays the value of the air pressure using LCD. Mostly the related information for
this project is collected from reference books, articles and also from the Internet. As
for conclusion, TPMS, as an embedded microelectronic system is expected to be
standard equipment and device in future automobile technology.
