Abstract

Hydrogen sulphide is a hazardous chemical compound that is harmful to living things and environment and can be found natural gas well reserve. This highly toxic gas can be dangerous to living things if it is not properly treated and can cause severe indigestion, intravenous , intraperitonitis and other side effects especially to human beings. Hydrogen sulphide through corrosive actions can impair great damages to industrial plant and equipment. To overcome this problem, it is a most common practice in the industrial plant to filter out the hydrogen sulphide and reduce it to as low as lppm. However, problem arises when there is an insufficient approach or methodology in designing desulphurization column. Thus the main objective of this project is to develop a simple mathematical model based on simplified continuity equation and finally designed a desulphurization column based on that derived equation. The model would then be compared and validated with an existing model, the Shrinking Core Model. This
new created model would then be validated and adjusted with an appropriate correction factor used in designing the desulphurization column. Application of the equation is based on the 2nm radius of zinc oxide at 673 operating condition. The total volume or amount of zinc oxide that is needed to sustain operation for a duration of 6 months can then be determined using a simple and scale-up techniques. Ultimately the designed column is compared to the existing fertilizer column. It should be noted that the desulphurization column can be designed by taking into consideration the single pallet and scale up column.
