Abstract

This paper is a study regarding optimization of Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) for waste heat recovery of a gas turbine. This study focus on the performance of ORC with different organic fluid as working fluid. The organic fluids for this study were selected using series of screening method. The organic fluid is first screened based on its effects towards environment. The final working fluid was selected based on the availability of the fluid and its price in Malaysia. The gas turbine data acquired for this study is gas turbine (B-0303B) from Gas District Cooling (GDC) plant in Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP). The data acquired are exhaust gas temperature entering HRSG, Feedwater Temperature and Steam Pressure. Thermodynamics modelling was developed and used to perform a simulation on ORC which acts as a tool to analyse the performance of ORC with three different working fluid which are Propane (R290), Isobutane (R600a) and 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (R134a). The evaporation temperature of organic fluid is gained based on the heat exchanging simulation between organic fluid and steam from HRSG. The ORC performance is determined based on the thermal efficiency (
