The sustainability of the irrigated rice ecosystem in cultivating rice, the staple food of Asia, is threatened by the rising scarcity of freshwater. Apart from the supply of water for the irrigation, evapotranspiration (ET) is considered as one of the most influential processes in the water balance which governs the amount of water left in the soil for the plant uptake.
