Abstract

This paper presents an idea on establishing a mobile application on detecting and
treating mild depression to help them examine and uphold a good mental health. This idea
was chosen due to current pandemic situation being very cruel to people’s mental health
by no more having a secured job, problems in marriage life, positive result for coronavirus
screening and many more. Over the years, the measure of people that suffer with grief has
grown and no one has found the genuine reason behind it and methods to help them. By
creating this mobile application, step-by-step details must be provided in an intuitive site
which may include helpful statistics on depressive symptoms.
The outbreak of coronavirus with a significant number of verified, reported cases
and the growing number of deaths created depression among the population. The ongoing
movement control order and adapting to new normal has made the situation worse. People
are unable to do the activities they once did just because of the new normal situation. This
has made people to have unstable mental health causing depression in time. The rapid and
world-wide growth of Covid-19 has caused public panic resulting in depression. The rate
of depression has increased in Malaysia after the outbreak of Covid-19. To address this
issue, this research paper focuses on developing a mobile application called depCare, to
detect depressive symptoms among people and help them cure if the severity of depression
is mild. This paper also covers the existing applications, websites and quizzed that are
related to depression. Another goal of this study is to gather data and analytics about
depression after the outbreak of Covid-19. In addition, this project’s goal is to develop a
mobile application that provides one stop platform to detect depressive symptoms with
quiz and treat mild depression. For Final Year Project 1,the author collected relevant data
that will help for the application development that took place the next semester which was
be Final Year Project 2. As for the methodology, Agile methodology was chosen to
develop depCare.
