Abstract

The application of paint range from buildings, furniture, to automated device and
infrastructures. This coating is important to prolong the lifespan of the product as well as
increase its aesthetic value. However, the beautiful finishes of paint on the buildings can
only last for 5 to 6 years for the current technology. The paint removal is a vital step to
repaint the surface and recover the aesthetic value of the assets. Removal of coatings using
Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) that is highly volatile poses a threat to worker safety
and environment. Room Temperature Ionic Liquid (RTIL) that have the similar properties
as VOC but stable at room temperature have been widely studied as substitutes for volatile
solvents in multiple chemical reaction and separation process. The effect of ionic liquids to
alkyd paint was studied compared to the use of commercial paint stripper. I
