Abstract

A risk framework for critical success factors in successful and sustainable completion
is very important for all the parties involved in construction of infrastructure projects.
This is due to construction organizations appraise the projects and make decision for
project investment. Therefore, there is a need to review the efforts of construction
teams to introduce and implement the sustainability principles in construction projects
towards successful completion. The issues of sustainable construction of
infrastructure projects in Malaysia are still new, therefore there are little to none in
depth studies on infrastructure projects built that do not meet the essential criteria of
sustainability. The aim of this research project is to establish project management
critical success factors for successful and sustainable completion of construction
projects. The specific objectives of the study are to establish the causative factors of
successful completion and sustainable construction of infrastructure projects, to
develop industry ratings of the identified factors causing successful completion and
sustainable construction of infrastructure projects by carrying out a questionnaire
survey using Snowball technique and evaluating the Relative Important Index (RII),
to determine the causative factors of successful completion and sustainable
construction of infrastructure projects through case studies utilizing information at
predesign and construction stages, to identify the factors causing successful
completion and sustainable construction of infrastructure projects on the basis of
interviewing experts and to develop risk framework for project management success
factors suitable for industrial practitioners to manage the projects towards successful
and sustainable completion.
