Abstract

Drinkable water is getting scarce in some parts of the world. According to WHO
(2016), by 2025, half of the world’s population will be living in water-stressed areas.
In low and middle-income countries, there are around 38% of health care facilities
lacking any water source, 19% do not have improved sanitation, and 35% lacking
water and soap for washing ( WHO, 2016). Therefore, utilization of untapped water
source is essential in providing safe, drinkable water. Despite the abundance of RO
membrane technology, cheaper and more efficient ways of treating water should be
discovered and implemented.
