Abstract

This study aims to elucidate the application of optimization technique for
Cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter to eliminate some higher order harmonics while
maintaining the required fundamental voltage. Optimization techniques can be applied to
multilevel inverter with any number of levels; as an example in this project, a 9-level and
11 -level inverter is considered, This project summarizes two different optimization
techniques, Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Firefly Algorithm (FFA) which will be used to
find the optimal switching angle to eliminate the 5th, 7th and the 13th harmonics. A
comparative study of different algorithm has been studied.
