Abstract

Stormwater quality modelling has had a chequered history. Despite the constant
attention given to the field over the past 30 years there is still little agreement on the
appropriate modelling approaches, or even what the primary processes involved in
pollutant generation are. Beyond that, there also exists a major lag in testing of newly
developed models in tropical climates. To that end, this study selects a method that
builds on past work which suggests that rainfall intensity is a major driver, and applies
the model proposed to data sourced characteristic of the tropical South East Asian
region. This is done by testing the effect of timestep, attenuation in applying the 2-
parameter deterministic model, followed by regression analysis for determination of
correlation between rainfall parameters and model coefficients. This study found
potential correlations for the intensity exponent, b and peak discharge. The study
shows that as a preliminary study of the model in tropical stormwater, the predictive
power of the model selected is less effective and more tailored studies should be
conducted.
