Abstract

High numbers of tower crane accident reported over years which caused casualties and injuries, bringing fatal damage to property, environment and also the public. Therefore, to reduce and prevent the accident from occurring, it is very important to ensure the tower crane in stable condition. Crane stability monitoring system is required in order to sustain the tower crane in safe condition. Total station has always been used to determine a precise coordinate or land survey work. By implementing this onto the crane may be a new breakthrough in field of crane monitoring. Projection angles onto the tower crane was determined and carried out to identify the deflections of the specific points over days to monitor the stability of the tower crane. This method was able to point out the accurate displacement at precise point on the tower crane, yet the procedure of setting up is considered as complicated and might interrupt the construction progress if not planned well. Further improvement can be made by applying the method onto the jibs of the crane and upgrade the total station into an automated network to allow 24-hours long distance monitoring.
