Abstract

One of the methods for monitoring underlying phsyiological changes due to effect of holistic
based treatment is through thermal images. Equipments such as thermal camera usually used
for screening and diagnosis purposes do not fully deliver the information needed for
analysis. Ability to extract useful information from thermal images of holistic based
treatment is very important in understanding body responses to treatment and monitoring the
treatment efficacy. Seed-point region growing method is useful for extracting informations
from thermal images analysis. Thermal images of subject undergoing hilotherapy were used
as the input to the algorithm developed on MATLAB. The images are taken after 5,10,20,30
and 35 minutes after removal of the hilotherapy mask. For consistency, the tolerance value
used for the segmentation algorithm is 0.035. The results shows decreasing trend for the
total segmented area corresponding to the area of the face covered with the homogeneous
temperature.
