Abstract

Temenggor Lake is a man-made lake which is in Hulu Perak, Malaysia. This lake is the second largest lake in peninsular Malaysia. The lake has been polluted by small sewage treatment system (SSTS) effluent discharge. The wastewater from jetty complex that consists of eateries and public restrooms and several houseboats wastewater is discharged to the SSTS. The effluent from SSTS is not properly treated and high in organic matter, bacteria, and nutrient contents. On the other hand, Temenggor lake is the source of drinking water supply to the northern side of Malaysia. There are claims that houseboats just release the wastewater generated by visitors directly to the lake without proper treatments.
