Abstract

Workplace hazards can significantly influence a worker's physical and mental health, reducing an organization's effectiveness in terms of safety. However, psychosocial hazards are being recognized as a crucial component that must be addressed for the individual's and organization's safety. Safety literature affirms that safety culture plays a decisive role in ensuring workplace safety. However, in the past, the focus of safety culture (SC) has largely been towards leadership and other contextual variables. The present research argues that in high safety-sensitive organizations (oil and gas), a strong safety culture through (management commitment (MC), work environment, organizational communication, and leadership help decrease the psychosocial hazards for the workforce of oil and gas industry. Also, our research looks into the predictive role of psychological hazards and their negative association with safety performance indicators such as; leading and lagging indicators.
