Abstract

Integration of Workflow Process in a Telecommuting Web Application Module to
Manage IT Project as the project is titled is initiated to develop an application that enable
project management of particularly Information Technology project to be done remotely
thus enable development to be done in telecommuting environment. In addition, the
project will also implement Workflow Process to support business process and
information process of project management. Such application is important to develop
project development environment of higher productivity and greater flexibility. The
project will also be based on standard Information Technology Project Management
procedure. The project also aims to develop a web application module that is capable
handling one single it project that allows collaboration between project manager and the
development team with standard online web page look and feel. At the current moment,
such application is only available in Lotus Notes environment. The scope of the study is
to design a system process based on project management standard procedures to be fully
automated and implemented with minimum human assistant and to ensure reusability of
the application to other similar Information Technology Projects situation. The product
differs from any other project management tool in away that it is design based on the
existing standard rather than some business specific process which will enable it to be use
in a organization that aim to comply of existing project management standard. The
product differs in a way that it is developed using open source technology which allow
the module to be reusable without any fees since that most project management is usually
charged per access basis. The execution of this project will be based on a waterfall
development model. The design process of the workflow will based on communication
based methodologies stem Winograd/Flores "Conversation for Action Model" and
activity based modeling after considering the objective of the project and compatibility of
both of the methodology to be used on top of one another in process modeling. Based on
preliminary study, previous researches that will be further discuss in preliminary study
have shown the importance of good project management is essential in determining
project success.
