Abstract

This project aimed to investigate air filter mechanism for air pollution by identifying air filter mechanism and selection of filter material to be used in removing airborne particles that causes serious health related problem which can affect respiratory and breathing system. The identification of filter material is important to remove contaminants from the air including harmful gases and certain size of airborne particles before the air delivered to the surrounding for better air quality purpose. In addition, air filter mechanism plays a crucial part in the operation of air filter which induces better air delivery and provide high efficiency in filtering out harmful particles in the air. The testing of air filter mechanism will be carried out by creating a test rig to determine amount of particles and size of particulate matter released after the filter. Furthermore, a series of tests will be designed and carried out to determine filtration efficiency, dust-loading capacity, dust-loading pressure drop and particle loading on the air filter. However, air filter could be damage due to accumulation of particles on the surface of filter thus causes increase in pressure drop and less air flow velocity in air filter due to the large airborne particles trapped on the surface of the filter. By applying suitable filter material, it can reduce air pollutants and also increasing effectiveness of filter material which can be included in air filtration system.
