Abstract

Air mixing system is common in the air conditioning industry. It mixes the two air streams that are the exhaust and incoming fresh air to provide energy saving. Although air filters are present in these systems, certain minute airborne pathogens are able to pass through and continue to circulate in the air conditioned space. This situation allows its inhabitants to be infected especially in places like the operating theater which require 100% clean fresh air. This project aims to provide a solution that does not mix the two air streams, therefore providing clean air. The project is aimed to evaluate the performance of fixed-plate air to air energy recovery heat exchanger for Kuala Lumpur for one year and investigate the energy saving provided by fixed-plate air to air energy recovery heat exchanger compared to the air mixing system to determine the impact of the cooling coil efficiency. The air flow pattern in the heat exchanger is the Z configuration. NTU method is used to determine the sensible and latent effectiveness of the heat exchanger.
