Fire happens in major infrastructure that deals with lots of electricity or machinery with high power consumption and even with chemicals or toxic which are highly flammable. These risks made way to the formulation of intumescent coating which helps these company to better handle their infrastructure in cases of emergency. This project focuses on the passive fire protection aspect which is intumescent coating with different variations for the purpose of enhancing the fire resistance. The hybrid fibre chosen to be mixed with the coating is basalt fibre and glass fibre with short and long length fibre of 8mm and 12mm with 0.3% and 0.6% weight percentage split equally between the two fibres. The coating will be tested on the substrate which is mild steel plate of 10cm X 10cm for fire test and 5cm X 5cm for furnace test. The furnace test will be tested at 800 degree Celcius for an hour and the samples are sent to the SEM and TGA for analysis and the fire test will undergo 1 hour of direct heating using Bunsen burner and the temperature is recorded and char expansion measured. The fibre that performs the best under the test and analysis is the BG6-2 which is basalt and glass fibre of 0.6% weight of 12mm length.
