Abstract

Gas District Cooling (GDC) supplies chilled water to Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) through the primary line where it will undergo heat transfer in heat exchangers with chilled water in the secondary line. Two gasketed plate heat exchangers are currently being used for the chilled water distribution system at UTP. Effectiveness of the heat exchangers are important criteria that influence the heat transfer process of the chilled water between the primary and secondary lines. Since there is no study yet on the effectiveness of the heat exchangers, this study is undertaken to analyse the effectiveness. Data on the parameters of the chilled water flow through the plate heat exchangers were obtained from the control room of UTP. The parameters such as temperature and flow rate of the hot and cold fluids were used in the calculations to determine the effectiveness of the plate heat exchangers.
