Abstract

Pressure drop during the flow of fluid is an important parameter to be determined before proceeding with any pipeline design. It is very essential in the determination of the pipe sizing and also the design of related downstream facilities. It will definitely have a huge impact on the optimization of cost and efficiency. The project aims to develop a model that will determine the pressure drop of a two-phase, liquid-liquid flow in a horizontal pipe through MATLAB simulation as the programming tool. In this modeling work, two-fluid model will be used for the prediction of pressure drop between oil and water. In liquid-liquid systems, the effect of curvature interface must be considered. With the small density differences between the two mediums, the interface configuration can be flat, concave or even convex. The curvature depends on the contact angle, the viscosity and the flow rates of the fluid involved. This model will be developed using MATLAB programming and will be tested with a few sets of input data. The calculated pressure drop from the developed model from this study will then be compared with experimental data to check for its reliability.
