Abstract

Domestic technology is the incorporation of applied science into the home. There are many aspects of domestic technology. On one level, there are domestic appliances and other devices commonly used in the home, such as air conditioning, food storage, home maintenance, cooking or cleaning. On another level, domestic technology recognizes the use of applied science to construct homes to achieve a particular goal, such as energy efficiency or self sufficiency. Although, there are a lot sort of home appliances but this project will be focused only one of the appliances which is portable air conditioner with the technology applied to reduce its noise normally generated by electric motor. This research relates to noise and vibration reduction of air conditioning equipment such as a room air conditioner, noise reduction of fan equipment such as a grille or blower in the mechanical equipments, a method for reducing noise of equipment in general and how to control the noise and its vibration effects. This project will produced a model which almost exactly same as the existing portable air conditioning in current market but it will have a little bit modification has been done to make it suitable for conducted the experiment. The experiments are focusing only for the certain parts that produce noise and vibration in the portable air conditioner. As initial conclusion, by using Rockwool foam as insulation, the noise reduction will be achieved. Hopefully, this thesis can be a reference and suggestion to the manufacturer for producing a desired result and a more successful design.
