Abstract

Increase in global waste sludge is a huge problem to mankind. This work represents
the effect of treating and stabilising the underground water sludge using
electroosmotic. The experimental work involved two phases. First, a basic laboratory
works consists of physical and chemical properties for the sludge. The overall effect
of the electric current on the properties of sludge was then investigated. Two
electrodes attached to the soil sample with DC power supply for a range of time and
current. The results on the effect of the electrical current on the characteristic of
sludge after 7 days of treatment such as physical, chemical, and electrical properties
being investigated. It was found that there are increase in shear strength and
settlement, cracking along the sample, no significant changes in the iron (III) oxide
concentration and significant reduction in moisture content
