Abstract
Self-compacting concrete was introduced to the construction industries in early
1990's to cater problem regarding the durability of structural concrete. It was
indicated in literature that much of the extensive research and development work has
been concerned with the achievement and assessment of fresh properties. However,
the hardened properties that are of paramount interest to structural designers and
users. Pulverized fuel ash was used as additives in this project due to their capability
of imparting considerable physical and economics benefits of concrete. This research
study was initiated with the aim to study the modulus of elasticity and modulus of
rupture of self-compacting concrete that incorporating pulverized fuel ash since these
modulus are fundamental parameters necessary in structural analysis, especially when
the design is based on elasticity consideration. Split cylinder and prism flexure test
were used to determine the modulus study. The effects of variable water to binder
ratio together with variable PF A content were examined. The value used in mix
design was within the optimum value given in literatures found. Experimental results
indicated that the modulus of rupture has shown no significant pattern with regard to
water to binder ratio. The modulus of elasticity also has exhibited the same pattern
where there is no significant increment with increasing pulverized fuel ash content.
