Abstract

Universiti Teknologi Petronas Test Well is a project where a shallow well will be
specifically drill prior to teaching and research purpose. With a true vertical decided to
be at minimum depth of150m (492 ft), the author had propose a several design of the
casing and tubing completion to suit the purpose of this project. This project having a
bright future for the university as this ca1l be built as a training center fer the petroleum
engineer students as it being the first research well ever being built in the South East
Asia Region that may contribute into the knowledge development to our graduates.
In this project, it will be divided into two parts: the surface facilities design and also
subsurface completion design. The objective of this well is to design a gas cireulating
system from the surface into the bottom hole and back to the surface in order to study
the gas flow measurement. Since the liquid loading is collliilon phenomenon in gas
wells, the study of liquid flow is also important in order to determine the critical flow
rate. Therefore, it can be used to simulate a multiphase flow circulation for further
research purpose. At first, this project is focus on the design of the well and completion
tubing. The size of the well is decided to be 12 inch with the installation of9 5/8 inch of
casing cemented from the surface wellhead. Next, the author will proposed a suitable
complete surface facility for the multiple phase flow to be injected from the surface.
Both design has to be honored several important parameters such as the gas and liquid
flow mte whicli hilS been decided to be from the ra1lge of 0 to 300 Mscf/D a1ld liquid
flow rate from 0 to 30 gal/min (43200 gal/day).
There are a few issue need to be discussed that relate to the safety of the project and
equipments and also the improvement that can be made in the future. As conclusion, the
end resiilt of tlie project Will be produce witli that comply with the mtiltiphase flow sttidy
for research and industrial purposes.
