Abstract

This project covers the controller mechanism and algorithm for IGBT
inverter in 3-phase motor implementation. The objective of this project is to design,
program and implement a controller hardware using Microchip PIC to interface with
an IGBT inverter for the application of 3-phase motor drive. From a DC voltage
source, an IGBT inverter can be used to drive a 3-phase motor by injecting the
required current into the motor coils, either in trapezoidal or sinusoidal commutation.
A controller is thus required to interface to the IGBT inverter. Input to the controller
is the rotor's angular position while the outputs of the control system are trigger
signals to the gate drivers of the IGBT. The controller, based on Microchip PIC,
needs to be programmed with the commutation algorithm and control strategy.
