Abstract

The common problem of Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) Student Portal (PRISM) service failure especially during student registration period urged the needs of the existence of a solution. Basically, the idea is where a virtual server clustering architecture is developed using Linux to support the existing system by improving availability with active redundancy. Thus, the main objective of the project is to improve overall availability of PRISM and the said solution is known to increase the availability up to 99% server run time. The cluster will not only hold the prism website but it would also integrate the entire student registration database inside which allow a wider view of the PRISM service status and easier database access for the UTP staffs. The whole project will be based on the Waterfall model development cycle where each step is done thoroughly before proceeding to the next phase.
