Abstract
The growth of technology is increasing at an impressive pace all over the world and this has enhanced the importance of communication, particularly on information flow, in this era of human civilization. Mobile phone, introduced years ago has continuously pushed the limits of technology to a level where mankind is overly dependent on it for their communication need. The increased usage of mobile technology devices has its negative side; increased in accidents, particularly road accidents, arising from such usage. Several researches have proven that the device is a distraction to the drivers; driving vehicles while talking to the phone. This distraction is found to have increased accident rate by 400% just on the account of driving while handling the device.
The pilot study shows that it is common for drivers to use their mobile device while driving in spite of their awareness of the danger associated with it. To minimize the distraction, this research was conducted with the objective of developing a voice activated notification reader to avoid the drivers from manually handling the device while driving. The application to be developed in Android OS and will use voice command from the driver to read out the content of the notification that the drivers received, hence avoiding the driver from physically retrieving the message from the device and losing focus on his driving.
