Abstract

Corrosion in offshore structures such as jacket platforms is one of the issues to be
considered during the design and maintenance due to corrosive and harsh marine
environment. In facts, corrosion is a detrimental process which causes material loss and
member degradation. This issue is crucial for offshore in Malaysian water because 65%
of the offshore platforms are reaching their design life. There are three corrosion zones
at the seawater environment which are atmospheric zone, splash zone and immersed
zone. The rate of corrosion varies in different zones. Currently, there is only small scale
studies had been done on corrosion for offshore steel structures in Malaysian water.
