Abstract

Every year the population of Perak Tengah is affected by flood due to Monsoon season. Development of a wireless sensor network for flood monitoring is done to study the space for improvement of current flood monitoring system applied on Perak Tengah area thus providing ample time for the emergency evacuation. The study is mainly divided into two parts, flood monitoring model and wireless sensor network development. Mesh network architecture is selected to construct the wireless sensor network. Three variables that are water level, surrounding temperature and rainfall volume are measured by two sensor nodes. The sensor nodes are connected to the computer through mesh network. The computer will display the gathered data variables and record them for analysis. The system prototype is tested at UTP Lake to gather the real time data to produce real-life scenario output
