Abstract

This paper aim to design and improve the ventilation air cooling system for HVAC unit in Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) using PID Controller and VFD techniques. The existing system shows greater energy and money wastage where the cooling air cannot be controlled for specific location. The current system distributes air to the entire floor. To solve this, the PID controller tuning using MATLAB will be used. Then, the HVAC system model is built using TRNSYS and the performance of the system without and with VFD is analyzed. The HVAC system using PID and VFD is has been found more efficient compared to the existing system because it can adjust the controller automatically for different load range and location.
