Abstract

This project focuses on monitoring and charging the wheelchair batteries based on internet of things (IoT). The purpose of this project to design and develop a system that can automatically monitor and charge the wheelchair batteries when the current level decreases to a certain threshold. Moreover, this project also implement the applications of internet of things in monitoring and charging the batteries capacity of the wheelchairs.
In the UTP CISIR lab, there is a power wheelchair that uses two batteries to operate. Frequent manual checking and charging is needed to ensure that the batteries does not completely lose charges. The same problem is applied for the other equipment as well and without a proper care for some brief of time, the batteries will experience the “deep charges” state. Even that the batteries is brand new, the recovery from this state is nearly impossible resulting the batteries to be completely useless and need a new replacement. Automatically ON/OFF charging circuitry also very important in this project. The charge termination when the batteries is fully charged is vital because once the battery is fully charged, the charging current will has to be dissipated and this will generate heat that can damage the batteries.
